Pastoral Care
Bethel Lutheran Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Williston, North Dakota, exists for the primary purpose of providing Christian care in its truest meaning - ministering to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of each person, not merely as a professional service, but as a work of love and mercy. Thus, we minister to people in the name of Christ by recognizing each individual as a child of God.

Just as Bethel employs qualified staff to meet the physical and emotional needs of our elders, Bethel also employs a full-time Chaplain to help meet their spiritual needs. Pastor Sheldon Sorenson, an ordained pastor of the ELCA, provides pastoral care and visitation for elders, families and staff. As a part of her ministry, she also provides emergency pastoral care and hospice ministry.

Sunday morning worship services are held in the Chapel at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday ,morning. Communion is held the first Sunday of each month. Weekly devotions are held  Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. and for those elders who are unable to come to the Chapel, weekly devotions are held on each neighborhood with the exception of Nelson Manor. All elders and their families are welcome to attend.

In addition, Catholic Mass is held each Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. by a local priest, and residents are assisted by volunteers from St. Joseph's Catholic Church. An inspirational message and gospel music is also offered on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m.

Bethel Lutheran Nursing & Rehabilitation Center realizes the importance to our elders of staying connected to the people and places that have given them support and purpose. For this reason, we encourage the continued connectiveness of our elder's home church congregation and clergy through visitation, monthly newsletters, prayers and monthly communion services.

Bethel Lutheran Nursing & Rehabilitation Center - Built on Christian Values

Rehabilitative Care
Rehabilitative Care programs are carried out through the joint efforts of the resident and our professional care staff.  Bethel partners with Rehab Vision to provide quality physical, occupational and speech therapy.  Our team approach encourages therapists to interact closely with residents, nursing staff, dietitians, social workers, physicians, and families to give optimal levels of service.

Bethel's Rehab Therapy Department also provides evaluation and skilled therapy services for residents who have experienced the effects of various neuromuscular disorders including:

  • Cerebrovascular accident (CVA)/stroke
  • Parkinson's disease
  • Aneurysm
  • Multiple Sclerosis
In addition to neuromuscular rehab services, Bethel Lutheran Nursing & Rehabilitation Center provides evaluation and skilled therapy services for residents with a variety of musculoskeletal dysfunctions including:
  • Total joint replacements
  • Post fracture repair
  • Post surgery weakness
  • Shoulder injuries
Rehabilitation programs goals include:
  • Optimal functional performance of self care (activities of daily living) skills
  • Optimal and safe mobility with or without assistive devices
  • Reduction of fall risk
  • Functional goals focused on eventual discharge placement to a lesser care environment
Bethel Lutheran Nursing & Rehabilitation Center recognizes rehabilitation is not provided by one department or service alone. Therefore, Bethel provides the following three levels of rehabilitative services:

Skilled Therapy evaluation and services are provided for patients who meet the following requirements:
  • Physician referral for therapy services
  • Potential to progress
  • Functional goals or outcomes
  • Services require the skills of a therapist to perform

Rehabilitative Nursing services are often implemented following discharge from a skilled therapy program in order to "fine tune" functional performance of daily living skills and mobility. This level of rehabilitation may also be appropriate for a resident who does not qualify for skilled therapy. These programs may be carried out by rehabilitation staff or by nursing personnel following the recommendations of rehabilitation staff.

Maintenance Programs are used to help a resident maintain his/her highest practical level of function and mobility. These are carried out by nursing personnel with recommendations by rehabilitation staff as needed.
